Messiah was to be mocked and insulted

Psalm 22:7-8
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
All who see me [a](A)sneer at me;
They [b]separate with the lip, they (B)wag the head, saying,
[c]Commit yourself to the Lord; (C)let Him deliver him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 27:39-44
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
39 And those passing by were [a]hurling abuse at Him, (A)wagging their heads 40 and saying, “(B)You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! (C)If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42 (D)He saved others; [b]He cannot save Himself. (E)He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 (F)He trusts in God; let God rescue Him now, if He [c]delights in Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 (G)The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.

Luke 23:11

11 And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, (A)dressed Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back to Pilate.

Luke 23:35

35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the (A)rulers were sneering at Him, saying, “He saved others; (B)let Him save Himself if this is the [a]Christ of God, His Chosen One.”
