Why do we behave the way we do?

Why do we behave the way we do?

We behave the way we do because our body is subjected to Sin and is in rebellion against God.

For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. (Romans 8:7)

All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. (Ephesians 2:3)

When we want to do what is right, we inevitably do what is wrong even though we love God’s law with all our heart. (Romans 7:21-25)

There is another power within us that is at war with our mind.

This power makes us a slave to the sin that is still within us.

Oh, what a miserable person we are! Who will free us from this life that is dominated by sin and death?

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.

So you see how it is: In our mind we really want to obey God’s law, but because of our sinful nature we are a slave to sin.

Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. (Romans 8:20-23)

For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering.

We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.

While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. (2 Corinthians 5:4)

So then what should you do?

Call on the name of the Lord and you will be saved! (Romans 10:13)

Besides the Lord, there is no other Savior. (Isaiah 43:11-21)

First He predicted your rescue, then He saved you and proclaimed it to the world.

No foreign god has ever done this. You are witnesses that He is the only God,”

Why then do you still place your trust in man to deliever.

Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they? (Isaiah 2:22)

Isn't it the Lord Himself have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, He have refined you in the furnace of suffering. (Isaiah 48:10)

For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”(Hebrews 12:6)

He did this so that you will turn to Him.

Before you are afflicted you went astray, But now you keep His word. (Psalm 119:67)

It is good for you that you have been afflicted, That you may learn His statutes. (Psalm 119:71)

You know that the judgments of God are right, And that in faithfulness He have afflicted you.(Psalm 119:75)

Fret not! For your light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, (2 Corinthians 4:17)

The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. (Lamentations 3:25-33)

And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline:
Let them sit alone in silence beneath the Lord’s demands.

Let them lie face down in the dust, for there may be hope at last.
Let them turn the other cheek to those who strike them and accept the insults of their enemies.

For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever.
Though he brings grief, he also shows compassion because of the greatness of his unfailing love.

For he does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow.
My brethern do not trust in what human can do!

Do not believe in this programme or that therapy that is stealing away the honour due Christ.
Only Christ Himself can deliver you from your affliction.

For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me—
the fountain of living water. (Jeremiah 2:13)

And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!

declares the Lord.

Drink my brethern from the Lord!

For whoever drinks of the water that He shall give you will never thirst.

But the water that He shall give you will become in you a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)

Oh my brethern! my brethern!

How often the Lord wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (Matthew 23:37)

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”[a]

20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,[b] Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy[c] when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world,[d] things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. 29 As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. (1 Corinthians 1:18-30)

Therefore my brethern,

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

Do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,[a] not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:8-9)

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  (John 10:27-28)

I tell you the truth, Christ is the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before Him were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them. 9 Yes, He is the gate.

Those who come in through Him will be saved.[b] They will come and go freely and will find good pastures.10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. His purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:7-10)

Man made therapy and programmes that promises to elevate your problem, have made God redundant and stolen away the honour due Christ who alone saves.

It's purpose is to steal God's sheep and kill and destroy them.

For who can set you free from your imprisonment of Sin apart from Christ alone?

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me. To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,[a] To proclaim liberty to the captives. And recovery of sight to the blind,To set at liberty those who are oppressed; (Luke 4:18)

6 “A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master,Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts. To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’(Malachi 1:6)

~Psalm 44:4-7
New Living Translation (NLT)

4 You are my King and my God.
You command victories for Israel.[a]
5 Only by your power can we push back our enemies;
only in your name can we trample our foes.
6 I do not trust in my bow;
I do not count on my sword to save me.
7 You are the one who gives us victory over our enemies;
you disgrace those who hate us.

May God bless this teaching.

And may the word that goes forth from His mouth not return to Him void, But it shall accomplish what He please. And it shall prosper in the thing for which He sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)

Reference:
The Bible is certainly not opposed to behavior modification or increased choice (1 Timothy 4:7, 10; Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:1). However, following God is not about cleaning up our act. Jesus did not come to save us from poor behaviors but from the death of sin. Behavioral techniques can help Christians who are struggling against their sinful natures, but for complete victory nothing can replace the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16; John 15:5).
